Tessa outshoots teammates to grab gold
Tessa Neo upstaged her more illustrious teammates to win the women's 10m air rifle individual gold medal at the Safra Yishun indoor shooting range on Saturday.
Part of the trio featuring Jasmine Ser and Martina Veloso that dominated the women's team event from start to finish, the 17-year-old from Nanyang Polytechnic eventually stole the thunder by winning the individual event with a score of 270.0.
Ser took silver with a total of 204.9 and Martina was third with 184.0.
However, Martina had to give up her bronze medal to fourth-placed Abdul Halim because the SEA Games diplomatic rules state that one country cannot win more than two medals in any individual event.
During the team event, Ser posted a score of 414.2 out of a maximum of 436 while Tessa notched 410.5 and Martina scored 409.2 to comfortably claim the gold medal with a combined score of 1233.9 ahead of Malaysia (1222.9) and Thailand (1219.2).
In the 10m air rifle men's competition, Thailand's trio of Pongsaton Panyatong, Napis Tortungpanich and Apichakli Ponglaokham won the team gold, while Pongsaton took home the individual gold.
