The Wire actor stabbed in nightclub

The Wire actor Anwan Glover was stabbed at a Washington nightclub early Sunday morning.

A police report stated that Glover,41, was on the second floor of a restaurant when an unknown person punched him. When he turned around to face the perpetrator, another person hit him on the back of the head, causing him to slip and fall on the wet floor.

Glover, who played tough gangster Slim Charles for three seasons on The Wire and also appeared in Twelve Years A Slave, said that he was then kicked multiple times.

After hearing someone shout "He has a knife!", Glover felt a sharp pain in his right side.

He was treated for a laceration on the right side of his torso at George Washington University Hospital.

It was reported that another assault had taken place 20 minutes at the same club after Glover was attacked. The 37-year-old victim told police that she got into an argument with a man she did not know who then punched her in the mouth. He was then escorted out of the club.

Glover publicly spoke against violence

Unlike his most famous TV role on the HBO series, Glover is a spokesman for anti-violence campaigns and often speaks about his own violent encounters.

He was shot 13 times as a teen in Washington's Columbia Heights neighbourhood while his brother died in a shooting in 2007.

Glover's son was also wounded in a shooting at a party in 2011.
