Movie Review: The Crossing II (PG13)
Director John Woo should not have divided his epic tragic romance The Crossing into two parts.
After all, The Crossing II spends a good 30 minutes recapping last year's first film - which includes characters Yan Zekun (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and prostitute Yu Zhen (Zhang Ziyi) - before we get to the meat of the story.
Here, our protagonists get caught in a steamer sinking disaster that claims more than 1,000 lives.
This is no Titanic though.
My main beef with The Crossing II is that Yan and Yu are too much of heroic archetypes; their personalities are just not complex enough to add depth to the emotional storyline.
The special effects are spectacular but everything else falls flat.
Rating: 2/5
