Firefighter's selfie after battling raging California fires goes viral
After battling one of San Diego's worst wildfire outbreaks, firefighter Tim Bergon sent a selfie to his wife to let her know that he is okay.
In the foreground of the photo, Mr Bergon is seen smiling while his colleagues, clearly exhausted after fighting the Cocos fire, take a break at the background. Some are even seen lying on the ground.
The photo was then seen and posted on the Facebook page of a restaurant, Plan 9 Alehouse, which is in the San Diego County, accompanied by a caption that said "Thank you!!!".
Touched by the firefighters' efforts, the photo led to a wave of support and messages for the men. The selfie became an internet sensation almost overnight as it garnered almost 35,000 likes and about 4,000 shares.
The owner of the restaurant, who is a friend of Mr Bergon, said: "When you see how exhausted they are, it just makes you really really grateful for all that they do."
The fires at San Diego County have so far destroyed 16 homes and forced hundreds of thousands of residents to flee.
