Influencer Genie Yamaguchi given electronic tag after conviction for $600 Don Don Donki theft

Yamaguchi had pleaded guilty to stealing about $600 worth of items from the Don Don Donki supermarket at Orchard Central.

Influencer Genie Yamaguchi will have to wear an electronic tag and remain indoors from 10pm to 6am every day, as part of her sentence for shop theft.

The 30-year-old was on Sept 23 issued with a day reporting order (DRO) for three months.

This is an alternative sentence to a fine or jail term, with offenders having to report to a day reporting centre on a regular basis.

Yamaguchi, who owns a preserved flower service and a beauty aesthetics clinic, had earlier pleaded guilty to stealing about $600 worth of items from the Don Don Donki supermarket at Orchard Central.

Court documents showed that Yamaguchi and her friend, Lee Suet Keay Cheryl, were at the supermarket on Aug 25, 2024, at about 2.30am.

The duo put 27 items in a cart and left the store without paying. The stolen items included beauty products, bags and food, which amounted to $628.90.

A supermarket staff member who saw them stealing the items told his manager about the incident, and the police were alerted. The theft was also captured by security cameras.

Yamaguchi was arrested at her home on Sept, 3, 2024.

In earlier proceedings, her lawyer, Mr Sunil Sudheesan, told the court that Yamaguchi had compensated Don Don Donki for the items.

The prosecution noted that she has no prior criminal record, and requested an assessment to determine Yamaguchi's suitability for a DRO.

On Sept 23, her other lawyer, Ms Joyce Khoo, said that her client was very sorry for her actions, and promised she will never re-offend.
