Maid jailed 13 years for Upper Bukit Timah homicide
A Burmese maid was on Monday (July 27) jailed 13 years for killing her employer's 87-year-old mother on March 4 last year.
Than Than Win, 25, admitted to one count of culpable homicide not amounting to murder for killing Madam Yong Wan Lan.
The High Court heard Than and Madam Yong were alone at home in an eighth-storey condominium unit at Springdale Condominium in Upper Bukit Timah that day.
Than had been scolded by Madam Yong that morning.
At about 4pm, Than was taking a break in the yard area behind the kitchen when she got increasingly angry.
She took the largest pair of scissors she could find and stabbed Madam Yong who was watching television in a room.
The autopsy showed that Madam Yong suffered over 20 stab wounds, including a 110cm wound from her left chest to her heel.
Than had been diagnosed with acute depression with psychotic symptoms.
