More than 1,600 volunteers will clock 35,000 hours in the upcoming GetActive Singapore! initiative - a series of sport festivals, community initiatives and competitions from Saturday to Aug 7.

Almost half of the volunteers are first-timers, while the rest did work for the SEA Games and Asean Para Games here last year.

They are dubbed "Team Nila", with more than 100 of them turning up at the Toa Payoh Sports Complex yesterday for their final training session.

Among them are Yeong Kwai Kok, 75, and Kuan Kim Kian, 77, the oldest couple among the 1,600, as well as five-year-old Winnie Mook, who is the youngest.

The GetActive Singapore! activities - which include the Singapore National Games and Sports Festival - will be held at various venues islandwide.
